Overview
This page covers creating and updating queries for BD Select and will cover each of the cases
Creating Select Queries
This procedure is fairly straightforward
- From the left navigation bar, choose the Select
- From the Select Owner dropdown menu, select the owner for the query. The “Create Audience” button will appear on the top right.
- Click on the “Create Audience” button to create a new query. This will open a new page
- Enter text for:
- Order Name
- Description
- From the “Select Data Source” dropdown, select the data source you will use
- Check with your team which data source you need
- No segment are created by default. Click on the “New Segment” button to create a segment
- A default label is added to the segment “Segment 1”. Change as needed.
- You are now ready to edit the select query.
Updating Query Attributes to Segments
To add a query attribute do these steps
- In the left pane of the query, expand the categories where your attribute is.
- Example: Personal Data > Is Child Present
- Check the box(es) on the select segment(s) you want add or remove from
- You can add or remove from multiple segments at the same time
- If you hover over the attribute, it will show three icons
- A plus sign to add to a segment Include field
- A minus sign to add to a segment Exclude field
- An x sign to remove an attribute
- Click on the icon that you want to act on. The attribute is added to the segment. You may need to expand the segment (Downward chevron next to the segment name)
- If added, select the attribute parameters as makes sense for the attribute type
Adding a New Segment
Click on the “New Segment” button to create a segment
- A default label is added to the segment “Segment 1”. Change as needed.
Select Options
- OR Tags
- To associate fields using an OR function versus the default AND function within a segment, you can add a matching OR Tag to the two fields
- Click the OR+ button for the field below to designate a tag. You can add that tag to any number of fields within the same segment.
- Segment Options (three dots in the top right of a segment)
- Count Limit
- Duplicate Segment
- OR Groups
- view all the set OR groups in a segment
- Segment Suppression
- Choose a Suppression Key to dedupe a segment based on the following scopes:
- All previous exports from this order
- Date (range)
- Specific export run
- File Upload

- Delete Segment

- Query Options
- Deduplicate Segments
- Deduplicates across segments using the default deduplication key unless another key is selected by clicking Deduplication Key

- Query Suppression
- Same process of suppression as the Segment level suppression but applied across all segments
Getting Order Count
- Prerequisite to run a custom count is to set up an order query in the data source details section
Do these steps to get an order count
- After editing the seqments and query as needed, make sure to click on the “Save Order” button on the top right.
- Click on the “Get Order Count” button on the top right. A dialog box will appear.
- Depending on how many data source details were created prior, you may have one or more tabs the get counts from.
- Choose the tabs applicable to your work and check the counts for them
Export Order
- Prerequisite to run and order is to set up an order query in the data source details section
Steps for this are:
- Click on the “Export Order” button on the top right
- If there is more than one order they will be displayed in rows
- Click the “Run Export” button on the order that you want. The “spinner” icon of a green clockwise turning 7/8 circle will appear.
- When it is finished, the spinner icon will disappear and there will be a download icon. Click to download the file locally
- Additionally, the file will be exported to BD Ingest for further automated processing as needed
